Kisner holds on at Colonial

- Staff and wire reports

Kevin Kisner birdied the first three holes on the back nine to take the lead and held on to win the Colonial in Fort Worth, repelling defending champion Jordan Spieth’s Sunday charge.

Kisner saved par with a five-foot putt at No. 18 to win his second PGA Tour title in 148 starts. He shot a four-under-par 66 to finish at 10-under 270, a stroke ahead of Spieth, Sean O’Hair and Jon Rahm. Spieth, who shot a bogey-free 65, was trying to become the only player other than Ben Hogan to win consecutive Colonials. Hogan won five times, including the first two in 1946 and ’47, and 1952 and ’53.

Bernhard Langer won the Senior PGA Championship at Trump National in Sterling, Va., by one shot over Vijay Singh for his record ninth senior major title. The Senior PGA was the only major that had eluded the 59-year-old German on the 50-andover PGA Tour Champions circuit. He tied Jack Nicklaus’ senior major record last week at the Regions Tradition in Alabama.

Shanshan Feng shot a four-under 68 to hold off Minjee Lee and Sung Hyun Park by a stroke at the LPGA Volvik Championship in Ann Arbor, Mich., the Chinese Olympian’s seventh LPGA Tour title.

Alex Noren shot a 10-under 62 for a two-stroke victory at the BMW PGA Championship in Virginia Water, England. Seven strokes back entering the final round, the Swede made six birdies and holed a six-foot eagle putt on No. 18. Francesco Molinari was second in the $7-million European Tour event.

The top-ranked USC men’s golf team was tied for second after three rounds of stroke play at the NCAA championships in Sugar Grove, Ill. The Trojans were at 17-under 847 along with Oklahoma and Nevada Las Vegas, one stroke behind Vanderbilt. Pepperdine was 14th at five over. The top 15 teams in the field of 30 advanced to Monday’s final round. The top eight after stroke play advance to match play to determine a national champion.
