New faces in city Party committee
HAN Zheng was reelected Party secretary of the new Shanghai Committee of the Communist Party of China yesterday at the 11th Shanghai Party Congress.
Ying Yong and Yin Hong were also reelected deputy Party secretaries of the new CPC Shanghai Committee at the first plenary session. The other members of the standing committee are Dong Yunhu, Liao Guoxun, Wu Jingping, Zhou Bo, Chen Yin, Weng Zuliang, Zhuge Yujie and Shi Xiaolin.
Chen, Zhuge and Shi are the new faces. Shi is the only woman in the standing committee, while Zhuge, who was born in 1971, is the youngest. The congress elected a total of 87 members.
“Shanghai is the birthplace of the Communist Party of China, and has made amazing development and achievements time after time,” Han said at a press conference yesterday.
“As the relay baton has been passed to us today, we feel a great sense of responsibility and consider it an honor for the trust bestowed on us by the CPC Central Committee.
“We will make every effort to promote economic growth with higher quality, efficiency and fairness,” he added. “We will develop the economic, financial, trading and shipping centers in line with the reforms and innovation. We will also promote Party management so as to ensure it remains the core of the leadership.”
Besides electing the 11th CPC Shanghai Committee members, the 810 delegates at the five-day Party congress also elected the new Party discipline inspection commission. Liao was named as the secretary of the commission.
Delegates also elected representatives who will attend the 19th CPC National Congress that will be held in Beijing in the second half of the year.
The congress also passed a report delivered by the 10th CPC Shanghai Committee, summarizing its work in the past five years and setting new goals for the next five years.
