What: There are 165 rooms in this palace, which was designed by Julia Morgan for newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst. Now owned and operated by the California state park system, the castle includes a main house, three guesthouse­s, one elaborate indoor pool and an outdoor pool, all on 127 hilltop acres of gardens and grounds.
