Catalina’s art

-

So timely to read Sharon Boorstin’s Weekend Escape, “Sparkling Days” [June 4], detailing her time on Catalina Island. We, too, enjoyed a relaxed and leisurely weekend on the island recently, but the most surprising treat was viewing Dale Chihuly’s sculptural glasswork exhibition at the Catalina Island Museum.

His glasswork is amazing, almost otherworldly, and a visual treat for the eye. Kudos to the museum for presenting Chihuly as its first major exhibition since opening last summer, and major applause for its skillful display of Chihuly’s work, both in the exhibition room and the outdoor terraces. A definite “mustsee.” CHRIS ISHIDA-MATSUDA
