Turner out with a broken wrist

Trea Turner has a broken right wrist after being hit by a pitch, and it’s unclear when the Washington Nationals will get their speedy shortstop back in the lineup.

Turner was hit by Pedro Strop’s 2-1 fastball in the seventh inning of Washington’s 5-4 loss to the Chicago Cubs on Thursday. Turner stayed in the game until Stephen Drew entered as a defensive replacemen­t in the ninth.

New York Yankees outfielder Dustin Fowler faced surgery on his right knee after being carted off the field following a crash into a wall in the first inning of his major league debut. Fowler, 22, started in right field against the White Sox at Chicago. He slammed into the wall near the corner trying to catch Jose Abreu’s foul ball with one out. He has an open rupture of the patellar tendon in the right knee, the Yankees said. Fowler was to lead off the second inning for his first big league at-bat . ... Right-hander Bartolo Colon was designated for assignment by the Atlanta Braves, one day after the 44-year-old dropped to 2-8.
