Munoz extends lead

PGA Tour rookie Sebastian Munoz shot a three-under-par 67 for a three-stroke second-round lead in the Greenbrier Classic over Ben Martin and Hudson Swafford at Old White TPC in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va. After shooting 61 Thursday, Munoz, finished Friday at 12-under 128. Martin shot 67 and Swafford had a 66. Both were at nine under.

Davis Love III followed his opening 63 with a 69. He was at eight under with defending champion Danny Lee (68) and Russell Henley (64).

Katherine Kirk of Australia shot a career-best nine-under 63 to take a three-stroke lead at 13-under 131 in the weather-delayed second round of the inaugural Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic in Oneida, Wis. Jaye Marie Green (66) was in second place. Sandra Gal of Germany was also 10 under through 13 holes.

Ror y McIlroy missed the cut at the Irish Open for the fourth time in five years after shooting a one-over 73 in his second round over the links at Portstewar­t, Northern Ireland, and was one over for the tournament. He was four strokes below the cut mark and 14 strokes off the leaders, Benjamin Hebert and Daniel Im. Jon Rahm shot 67 to be alone in third place, a stroke off the lead held by the pair who also topped the leaderboar­d after the first round. Hebert and Im shot 67 Friday. No.2-ranked Hideki Matsuyama shot 68 and was five shots back.

Dennis Rasmussen signed a oneyear contract with the Ducks in a depth move at forward. Rasmussen had eight goals and 17 points in 112 games with the Chicago Blackhawks. He made his playoff debut last season. — Curtis Zupke

Another day, another victory for Marcel Kittel in the Tour de France. This time, the German nearly made his move too late and edged Edvald Boasson Hagen of Norway in a photo finish to win his third stage of the Tour and second in two days. It was Kittel’s 12th career win in the Tour, tying him with Erik Zabel for the German record. Three-time champion Chris Froome will wear the yellow jersey into the mountains this weekend.

Police investigat­ors rescinded their earlier conclusion that tennis star Venus Williams was at fault in a fatal traffic accident last month in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. Instead, police said that video shows Williams legally entered an intersecti­on but was cut off by another car, setting off a chain of events that seconds later resulted in a fatal crash with a third car.

Kyle Busch clocked a track-record 190.282 mph to earn his first Kentucky Speedway NASCAR Cup Series pole before thundersto­rms shortened qualifying. Martin Truex Jr. will start second with Matt Kenseth third. Busch also took the pole for the Xfinity Series race at the Sparta track, which was postponed because of the weather from Friday night to Saturday at 9 a.m. PDT.

Canada beat French Guiana 4-2 in the opener of the CONCACAF Gold Cup at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J. In the day’s other Cup game, Costa Rica beat Honduras 1-0.

Meanwhile, Mexico coach Juan Carlos Osorio was effectivel­y banned from the Gold Cup by FIFA for insulting match officials. FIFA banned Osorio for six matches for his behavior during the Confederat­ions Cup thirdplace game Sunday, when Mexico lost to Portugal 2-1. Mexico will open Gold Cup play Sunday against El Salvador.
