Veteran Spur will be back

- Wire reports

Manu Ginobili tweeted that he is re-signing with San Antonio for his 16th season with the franchise.

Manu Ginobili, a favorite of Spurs fans, said Wednesday on his Twitter account that he is re-signing with San Antonio for another season, which will be his 16th with the Spurs.

Ginobili averaged 7.5 points and 18.7 minutes a game last season. In 15 seasons with the Spurs, he ranks in the top five in franchise history in points (13,467), games (992), assists (3,835) and steals (1,349).

The 6-foot-6 guard turns 40 on July 28 and has been a part of four of the Spurs’ five NBA championships. A member of the three-player core with Tim Duncan and Tony Parker, Ginobili may be the most beloved member of the group.

The Memphis Grizzlies signed guard Mario Chalmers, nearly 11⁄2 years after he ruptured his right Achilles’ tendon playing for the team. Terms weren’t disclosed.

The Houston Rockets have been on the market for two days and already there’s a potential buyer. NBA Hall of Famer Dikembe Mutombo, who played for the Rockets for five years, has said he is in the process of putting together a group to purchase the team.

Phoenix Suns general manager Ryan McDonough has a new three-year contract and an additional front office helper in longtime NBA player James Jones. Suns owner Robert Sarver extended McDonough’s contract through the 2019-20 season and hired Jones as vice president of basketball operations. Jones will report directly to McDonough in the new position. McDonough is entering his fifth season as general manager.

Jones played the last 14 seasons in the NBA, two with the Suns, and was part of three championship teams — two in Miami and one in Cleveland. He also was secretary-treasurer of the NBA Players Assn.
