Woods had THC in system

- Staff and wire reports — Mike James

Tiger Woods had the active ingredient for marijuana, two painkillers and two sleep drugs in his system when he was arrested on a DUI charge earlier this year, a report released Tuesday by police said.

Police in Jupiter, Fla., released the report less than a week after Woods agreed to enter a diversion program to settle charges of driving while intoxicated.

The report, prepared by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, says Woods, 41, had THC, the active ingredient for marijuana; as well as the painkillers Vicodin and Dilaudid; the anxiety and sleep drug Xanax; and the anti-insomnia drug Ambien in his system when he was arrested May 29 about 15 miles from his home in Jupiter.

Officers had found him unconscious in his Mercedes-Benz, which was parked awkwardly on the side of the road and had damage to the driver’s side.

Woods issued a statement saying he had been trying on his own to treat his insomnia and pain from his fourth back surgery, which he underwent in April. He did not specifically address the marijuana issue. None was found in his possession.

Woods is scheduled to plead guilty to reckless driving Oct. 25 and enter the county’s diversion program.

Oklahoma State junior Hayden Wood, son of PGA Tour Champions player Willie Wood, shot a three-under-par 67 at Bel-Air Country Club to take medalist honors in the U.S. Amateur championships at BelAir and Riviera country clubs.

Wood’s two-day total of nine-under 131 was a 36-hole scoring record for the Amateur and gave him the No. 1 seeding in match play, which runs today through Sunday at Riviera. He finished three strokes ahead of Oregon sophomore Norman Xiong of San Diego, who had a 70 at Bel-Air.

Scottie Scheffler of Dallas, the low amateur in the U.S. Open in June, will be among 13 players involved in a playoff this morning at Riviera for the final eight spots in the match-play field of 64.
