at No. 4 Penn State 33, Pittsburgh 14:

Trace McSorley threw for three touchdowns, including Saquon Barkley’s 46-yard catch-and-run, and the Nittany Lions (2-0) ended a skid against the Panthers (1-1) at two games.

at No. 8 Michigan 36, Cincinnati 14:

Wilton Speight threw two touchdown passes for the Wolverines (2-0), who led by only three points in the second half. Hayden Moore threw for 132 yards and one touchdown for the Bearcats (1-1).

at No. 9 Wisconsin 31, Florida Atlantic 14:

Freshman Jonathan Taylor ran for 223 yards and three touchdowns, Alex Hornibrook threw for 201 yards and a touchdown, and the Badgers (2-0) wore down the Owls (0-2).

at Maryland 63, Towson 17:

Freshman Kasim Hill threw two touchdown passes, both to D.J. Moore, and the Terrapins (2-0) cruised. Towson (1-1) got two touchdown passes from Ryan Stover.

Eastern Michigan 16, at Rutgers 13:

Paulie Fricano kicked a go-ahead 24-yard field goal in the fourth quarter to lift the Eagles (2-0). It was the 11th loss in a row for the Scarlet Knights (0-2).

at Michigan State 28, Western Michigan 14:

Brian Lewerke scored on a 61-yard run in the first quarter, the longest touchdown run by a Spartans (2-0) quarterbac­k since 1973, and the defense contained the Broncos (0-2) running backs.

at Illinois 20, Western Kentucky 7:

Despite giving up 238 yards passing to Mike White, the Illini (2-0) held the Hilltopper­s (1-1) out of the end zone until the fourth quarter. Chase McLaughlin kicked field goals of 37 and 20 yards to put Illinois ahead 6-0.

at No. 1 Alabama 41, Fresno State 10:

Quarterbac­k Jalen Hurts ran for 154 yards and two touchdowns and passed for a third score as the Crimson Tide routed the 44-point underdogs. Hurts completed 14 of 18 passes for 128 yards, but his biggest play came in the opening minute. He kept on a zone read and sprinted for a his first touchdown.

at No. 12 Louisiana State-Chattanoog­a :

Derrius Guice ran for two touchdowns and D.J. Chark returned a punt 65 yards for the Tigers, who overcame bouts of sloppiness. Danny Etling passed for 227 yards and a touchdown.

No. 23 Texas Christian 28, at Arkansas 7:

Darius Anderson ran for a career-high 106 yards and a touchdown for the Horned Frogs, who thwarted the Razorbacks’ passing attack and held them to 267 total yards.

Mississipp­i State 57, at Louisiana Tech 21:

Nick Fitzgerald threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more for Mississipp­i State. Defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons scored two touchdowns, one after blocking a punt.

at No. 25 Tennessee 42, Indiana State 7:

Ty Chandler returned the opening kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown and Carlin Fils-aime had two scoring runs for the Volunteers.

at Kentucky 27, Eastern Kentucky 16:

Quarterbac­k Stephen Johnson accounted for two touchdowns and Benny Snell scored the go-ahead touchdown for the Wildcats.

at Mississipp­i 45, UT Martin 23:

Shea Patterson passed for five touchdowns and a single-game school record of 489 yards for the Rebels. Ten receivers caught passes.

at Vanderbilt 42, Alabama A&M 0:

Quarterbac­k Kyle Shurmur completed 15 of 18 passes for 202 yards and four touchdowns for the Commodores. Shurmur also ran for a score.

South Carolina 31, at Missouri 13:

Deebo Samuel ran for two touchdowns and caught five passes for the Gamecocks, who trailed 10-0 in the second quarter.

at Texas A&M 24, Nicholls State 14:

Kendall Bussey ran for 97 yards and the go-ahead 2-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter as the Aggies avoided a major upset.

at No. 19 Kansas State 55, Charlotte 7:

Defensive back Kendall Adams had two touchdown returns in the first half, 30 yards after an intercepti­on and 46 yards after a fumble recovery, and the Wildcats (2-0) rushed for 304 yards and five touchdowns in a blowout of the 49ers (0-2).

Iowa 44, at Iowa State 41 (OT):

Nate Stanley’s five-yard touchdown pass to Ihmir Smith-Marsette in overtime gave the Hawkeyes (2-0) their third straight win over their rivals. The Cyclones (1-1) led 38-31 late in regulation but Iowa tied it with 1:09 to play on Stanley’s 46-yard pass to Akrum Wadley.

at Texas 56, San Jose State 0:

Chris Warren III ran for 166 yards and two touchdowns as the Longhorns (1-1) rebounded from an upset loss to Maryland to give new coach Tom Herman his first win.

at West Virginia 56, East Carolina 20:

Florida transfer Will Grier passed for 352 yards and five touchdowns in his first home start for the Mountainee­rs (1-1). The Pirates are 0-2.

Central Michigan 45, at Kansas 27:

Shane Morris threw for 467 yards and five touchdowns on efficient 28-for-37 passing, and the Chippewas (2-0) rolled over the Jayhawks (1-1).

Texas San Antonio 17, at Baylor 10:

Dalton Sturm passed for two touchdowns and the Roadrunner­s (1-0), whose opener at Houston was canceled because of Hurricane Harvey, beat the reeling Bears (0-2).

No. 17 Louisville 47, at North Carolina 35:

Reigning Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson accounted for 525 total yards and six touchdowns to help the Cardinals pull away late and beat the Tar Heels.

at No. 18 Virginia Tech 27, Delaware 0:

Greg Stroman returned a punt for a touchdown and Josh Jackson threw two scoring passes to carry the Hokies to a victory over the Football Championsh­ip Subdivisio­n Blue Hens.

Daniel Jones accounted for 413 total yards and four touchdowns, and the Blue Devils cruised to a victory over the Wildcats.

John Wolford ran for one touchdown and threw for another and the Demon Deacons forced four turnovers in a victory over the Eagles.

Redshirt freshman Peyton Ramsey completed 16 of 20 passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Hoosiers over the Cavaliers.

Middle Tennessee 30, at Syracuse 23:

Brent Stockstill threw touchdown passes on three consecutiv­e drives, the Blue Raiders capitalize­d on a big Syracuse miscue and overcame more than 100 yards in penalties to defeat the Orange in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

at North Carolina State 37, Marshall 20:

Ryan Finley threw three touchdown passes and the Wolfpack beat the Thundering Herd. Reggie Gallaspy added two scoring runs while Finley was 29 for 36 for 341 yards.
