at No. 7 Michigan 29, Air Force 13: Donovan Peoples-Jones returned a punt 79 yards for a score and Quinn Nordin tied a school record with five field goals.

Northern Illinois 21, at Nebraska 17: Jordan Huff scored the winning touchdown on a 2-yard run with 8:52 left, and the Huskies (2-1) became the first team not in a Power Five conference or major independen­t to win in Lincoln since Southern Mississipp­i knocked off the Cornhusker­s in 2004. No. 10 Wisconsin 40, at Brigham Young 6: Alex Hornibrook threw for four touchdowns and 256 yards and Jonathan Taylor ran for 128 yards and a score. BYU quarterbac­k Beau Hoge made his first career start and managed 111 passing yards and had two intercepti­ons. at Minnesota 34, Middle Tennessee 3: Kobe McCrary rushed for 107 yards and three touchdowns and Jacob Huff returned an intercepti­on 67 yards for a touchdown. at Iowa 31, North Texas 14: Nate Stanley threw for 197 yards and a pair of touchdowns and the Hawkeyes (3-0) finished the nonconfere­nce season unbeaten. at Rutgers 65, Morgan State 0: Freshman quarterbac­k Johnathan Lewis ran for four touchdowns and passed for another in part-time action, and the Scarlet Knights ended an 11-game losing streak. at No. 8 Ohio State 38, Army 7: True freshman J.K. Dobbins ran for 172 yards to rebound from last week’s loss to Oklahoma. J.T. Barrett, the target of critics, was 25 for 33 for 270 yards and two touchdowns. at No. 5 Penn State 56, Georgia State 0: Trace McSorley threw a Beaver Stadium-record 85-yard touchdown pass to Saquon Barkley for one of his four scoring strikes and also ran for a touchdown. at Northweste­rn 49, Bowling Green 7: Clayton Thorson threw for a career-high 370 yards and two touchdowns.

at No. 1 Alabama 41, Colorado State 23: Jalen Hurts passed for 248 yards and two long touchdowns and also rushed for 103 yards for the Crimson Tide, who dominated early and answered a comeback attempt before outlasting the Rams. at Mississipp­i State 37, No. 12 Louisiana State: 7: Nick Fitzgerald threw two touchdown passes and ran for two more scores for the Bulldogs. Aeris Williams rushed for 146 yards, averaging 6.3 yards per carry against the Tigers.

at No. 13 Georgia 42 , Samford 14: Nick Chubb ran for two touchdowns and freshman Jake Fromm threw three scoring passes in his first home start for Georgia. Chubb already had 94 of his 134 yards before Samford got its first first down. at No. 15 Auburn 24, Mercer 10: Kamryn Pettway ran for 128 yards and three touchdown for the Tigers, who turned the ball over five times — four fumbles and an intercepti­on — but still managed to beat an overmatche­d FCS opponent. at Vanderbilt 14, No. 18 Kansas State 7: Kyle Shurmur scored on a two-yard run with 8:23 left as the Commodores got their first win over a ranked, nonconfere­nce opponent since 1946. Vanderbilt is 3-0 for the first time since 2011. at Texas A&M 45, Louisiana 21: Led by freshman quarterbac­k Kellen Mond, the Aggies scored 31 unaswered points after trailing 21-14 at halftime. The win preserved embattled coach Kevin Sumlin’s job for at least another week. Kentucky 23, at South Carolina 13: Benny Snell Jr. rushed for two touchdowns as the Wildcats beat the Gamecocks for the fourth straight time. The Kentucky defense solidified after allowing 68-yard touchdown catch on the first play. Purdue 35, Missouri 3: The Boilermake­rs scored touchdowns on its first three drives and cruised to victory.

at No. 2 Oklahoma 56, Tulane 14: Baker Mayfield passed for 331 yards and four touchdowns, and the Sooners followed their impressive victory at Ohio State with a win over the Green Wave.

at No. 20 Texas Christian 56, Southern Methodist 36: Jalen Reagor made a leaping 38-yard catch between four defenders in the end zone on the last play of the first half, finally putting the Horned Frogs ahead to stay in a victory over the upset-minded Mustangs. at Ohio 42, Kansas 30: Nathan Rourke threw for 152 yards and two touchdowns as the Bobcats defeated the Jayhawks, extending Kansas’ road losing streak to 42 games, the longest active streak in the nation. at West Virginia 59, Delaware State 16: Will Grier threw three touchdown passes, Justin Crawford ran for three scores and the Mountainee­rs beat the Hornets. Iowa State 41, at Akron 14: Jacob Park passed for 317 yards and two touchdowns, including a 43-yarder to Marchie Murdock, as the Cyclones pulled away in the second half for a victory over the Zips.

No. 9 Oklahoma State 59, at Pittsburgh 21: Mason Rudolph gave his Heisman Trophy campaign a kick start by throwing five touchdown passes, and the Cowboys reached the end zone on each of their first seven possession­s in routing the Panthers. No. 16 Virginia Tech 64, at East Carolina 17: Redshirt freshman Josh Jackson threw for 372 yards and five touchdowns — three to Cam Phillips — and the Hokies started 3-0 for the first time since 2011.

Notre Dame 49, at Boston College 20: Quarterbac­k Brandon Wimbush rushed for four touchdowns, including a 65-yard breakaway to help ice the game in the fourth quarter, and Josh Adams had scoring runs of 65 and 64 yards as the Fighting Irish rebounded from last week’s one-point loss to Georgia. at Virginia 38, Connecticu­t 18: Kurt Benkert passed for 455 yards, breaking the school record of 421 he set last year against Central Michigan, and the Cavaliers (2-1) eased past the Huskies. at North Carolina State 49, Furman 16: Jaylen Samuels rushed for three short touchdowns and Ryan Finley passed for 231 yards and a score as the Wolfpack routed the Paladins (0-3). at Duke 34, Baylor 20: Shaun Wilson rushed for 176 yards and scored on runs of 50 and 65 yards to help the Blue Devils open with three consecutiv­e wins for only the second time since 1994. at Wake Forest 46, Utah State 10: John Wolford threw for 242 yards and two touchdowns and ran for a score to help the Demon Deacons start 3-0 for the second straight year. North Carolina 53, at Old Dominion 23: Chazz Surratt ran for two touchdowns and threw for one to propel the Tar Heels to their first victory. at Syracuse 41, Central Michigan 17: Eric Dungey ran for 105 yards and one touchdown and threw for another and tailback Dontae Strickland scored twice for the Orange.
