Leishman surges to five-shot lead at BMW

- wire reports

Marc Leishman got up and down from behind the 18th green for one last birdie that gave him a three-under 68 Saturday and extended his lead to five shots over Jason Day and Rickie Fowler going into the final round of the BMW Championship at Lake Forest, Ill.

Leishman gets another chance to win a Fed Ex Cup playoff event and grab a top-five seed at the Tour Championship next week. The top seeds have the clearest path to claim the $10-million bonus.

Leishman shared the 54-hole lead last week at TPC Boston with Justin Thomas, who surged past him to win. Saturday, no one could make a run at Leishman at Conway Farms. Fowler and Day shot 70.

Moriya Jutanugarn of Thailand shot three-under 68 to lead the Evian Championship after two rounds at Evian-les-Bains, France, and could join her younger sister Ariya in golf ’s record book.

Moriya is at nine-under 133, one shot ahead of Ayako Uehara of Japan, who shot 66. A victory by Moriya would make the Jutanugarns the first sisters to win majors since the LPGA Tour began in 1950. Ariya won last year’s British Open.

David McKenzie fired a sevenunder 64 for a share of the lead with Jerry Smith at 12-under 130 in the PGA Tour Champions’ Pacific Links Bear Mountain Championship at Victoria, Canada.
