Next year’s style is trending
BY KYLE TROUTMAN >>> International designers filled Santa Monica’s Barker Hangar late last month with modern decor, site-specific installations and thoughtprovoking panel discussions at the WestEdge Design Fair.
Open to both designers and the public, the fall show has grown significantly over its five-year lifespan while bringing well-deserved attention and prestige to the city’s design community.
“The desire for great design is only increasing,” says WestEdge co-founder Troy Hanson, noting Los Angeles’ extraordinary growth within the design, architecture, art, fashion and culinary industries over the last 10 years.
Artisans from as far as Iceland and as close as Culver City showcased pieces that are setting some of 2018’s noteworthy design trends.
Canadian designer and painter Zoë Pawlak showed romantic, art-inspired rugs that are precious enough for framing, while the San Francisco-based workshop Fyrn displayed accessible, custom furniture designs with assorted high/low upholstery, wood and hardware options that ship fully assembled or in easy-to-install sections.
The more than 150 designers and brands at the show exhibited beautiful, bold designs, each with a fresh point of view and high level of respect for materials and form. Here are just a few of the highlights:
