The Superman Returns and The Art of More actress, 34, stars Nov. 7 in the National Geographic Channel’s series

The Long Road Home. It’s based on a real-life ambush of U.S. forces occupying Iraq, an event that came to be called “Black Sunday.” Bosworth plays Gina Denomy, one of the Army wives waiting for news back home in Texas.

Tell us about your character, Gina.

She had just given birth to her son a day or two before her husband [Captain Denomy, played by Jason Ritter] deployed. She’s trying to keep it all together under extraordinary circumstances. My character is part of a group that if there was a fallen soldier, she would go to the home to support and care for the widow.

You’ve got a grown stepdaughter, Jasper, with your writer/director husband, Michael Polish, and you’ve said you’d love to have children of your own “soonish.”

Love, family and home are everything to me. I’m lucky in that it all connects, that I have a partner that can totally support me as an artist, as do I with him. Family, for me, is number one.

What does living in Montana give you that you don’t get in L.A.?

I grew up riding horses and I loved big sky, wide-open fields and riding through them. It really is very meditative to me, and it’s very creatively inspiring. Having space is very important as an artist.
