Avalanche trade Duchene to Senators in three-team deal

The Colorado Avalanche traded forward Matt Duchene to the Ottawa Senators in a three-team deal that sent center Kyle Turris to Nashville.

The Avalanche received forwards Shane Bowers and Vladislav Kamenev, defenseman Samuel Girard, goalie Andrew Hammond and first-, secondand third-round NHL draft picks.

Duchene will play his first game with the Senators on Friday against the Avalanche in Stockholm. “It’s bitterswee­t for sure, but I’m excited for a new opportunit­y in Ottawa,” Duchene said after being removed during Sunday’s game against the New York Islanders. “It’s very weird and obviously being pulled in a game, then to be playing my first two games against my old team is gonna be pretty strange.”

Duchene, the No. 3 overall pick in 2009, has 178 goals and 428 points in 585 games, including 10 points in 13 games this season. Turris, the No. 3 overall pick in 2007, has 136 goals and 320 points in 544 games, including nine points in 11 games this season. He reportedly signed a six-year, $36 million extension with the Predators as part of the deal.

South Carolina receiver Deebo Samuel sprained his foot while rehabbing a fractured bone in his leg and won’t return to the Gamecocks this season.

Patrick Cantlay won the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas in a playoff for his first PGA Tour victory. The 25-year-old former UCLA star hit from behind a tree and got up-and-down for par from off the back of the 18th green to beat Alex Cejka and Whee Kim on the second extra hole . ... Justin Rose made a 10-foot birdie putt on the final hole to win the Turkish Airlines Open by a shot for his second straight title on the European Tour . ... Defending champ Shanshan Feng shot a 68 to win the LPGA Tour’s Japan Classic.

Jack Sock beat Filip Krajinovic 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 to win the Paris Masters and qualify for the seasonendi­ng ATP Finals, both firsts for the 16th-seeded American. He will break into the top 10 at ninth . ... Julia Goerges beat American CoCo Vandeweghe 7-5, 6-1 in the WTA Elite Trophy final in China.

The Houston Dynamo advanced to the MLS Western Conference finals after a 2-1 victory over the Portland Timbers in the second leg of their semifinal. The Columbus Crew advanced to the Eastern Conference finals, winning the two-leg series 4-3 after falling 2-0 in the second game. The Crew will host the Supporters Shield winner Toronto FC in Game 1 of the conference finals Nov. 21. Toronto lost 1-0 to the New York Red Bulls and still advanced on away goals after the two-leg series ended tied 2-2 on goals aggregate.
