USC, UCLA and Pepperdine will open play in the NCAA women’s soccer tournament with home games this weekend.

USC, the defending NCAA champion, is seeded third and will host Eastern Washington (16-5-1) on Saturday at noon. The Trojans (14-3-1) are ranked No. 6 in the United Soccer Coaches poll.

UCLA, which beat USC in the regular-season finale for both teams last week, is seeded second and will begin play against San Diego State (12-7-2) on Friday at 7 p.m. at Drake Stadium. The Bruins (15-2-2) are ranked fifth nationally.

West Coast Conference champion Pepperdine, 14-2-3 and ranked 12th in the coaches’ poll, will meet Big West Conference winner Cal State Fullerton (12-5-4) in a first-round game Saturday at 1 p.m. in Malibu. — Kevin Baxter

Alabama linebacker­s Shaun Dion Hamilton and Mack Wilson will be sidelined for at least the rest of the regular season after suffering injuries in Saturday’s 24-10 win over Louisiana State. Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban said that Hamilton had surgery on his right knee. He said that Wilson, who suffered a foot injury, could return for the bowl season.

West Virginia basketball coach Bob Huggins agreed to a four-year contract extension that includes the option for him to step aside or continue coaching after the 2021-22 season. Huggins, 64, will be paid $3.75 million this season.
