Rockets lengthen winning streak to 14

-

With the number of offensive weapons dotting the roster of the Houston Rockets, opponents have to choose which scorers they're going to try to stop.

That often leaves other players with great opportunities to score, as was the case on Monday night when the Utah Jazz keyed in on slowing down James Harden and Chris Paul and paved the way for Eric Gordon's big night.

Gordon scored 17 of his seasonhigh 33 points in the fourth quarter to power a huge run that carried the Rockets to their 14th consecutive win, a 120-99 rout at Houston.

“All it takes is one of us to get hot and [Monday] it was EG,” Paul said. “And that was crazy.”

The Rockets used a 15-0 run early in the fourth to take the lead and were up by four points midway through the quarter after a layup by Joe Ingles. They then scored 11 points in a row, capped by two three-point baskets by Gordon to make the score 111-96 with about three minutes to play.

“You're looking for it every time down the court,” Gordon said. “I think guys were looking for me and it was just a fun game in that fourth quarter.”

Harden added 26 points and Clint Capela had 24 points and 20 rebounds for the Rockets.

Boston 112, at Indiana 111: Kyrie Irving scored 30 points and Terry Rozier's steal and dunk with 1.5 seconds left capped a frantic comeback by the Celtics, who trailed by five points with 31 seconds to play.

at Oklahoma City 95, Denver 94: Russell Westbrook scored 16 of his season-high 38 points in the fourth quarter, including a free throw that turned out to be the winning point.

at Minnesota 108, Portland 107:

Jimmy Butler powered through back spasms to score 37 points, including two free throws with 2.5 seconds left to cap a Timberwolves rally from a 10-point deficit.

Phoenix 97, at Dallas 91: Alex Len had 14 points and 14 rebounds to help the Suns rally to their second consecutive comeback victory.

at Charlotte 109, New York 91: Reserve Frank Kaminsky matched a season high by scoring 24 points, 15 in the first half.

at Atlanta 110, Miami 104: Taurean Prince scored 24 points, Dennis Schroder scored 23 and the NBA’s worst team won for only the seventh time in 30 games.

at Chicago 117, Philadelphia 115:

Nikola Mirotic and Kris Dunn each scored 22 points to help the Bulls to their sixth consecutive victory.

at San Antonio 109, Clippers 91 Golden St. 116, at Lakers 114 (OT)
