Future unclear for Lewis

-

Coach Marvin Lewis talked to owner Mike Brown about his future with the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday, but they reached no conclusions and planned more discussions.

The Bengals failed to make the playoffs for the second straight season, and Lewis’ contract is finished after his 15th year in Cincinnati. He said Monday that he’s not sure he’ll be back. He and Brown had a general discussion about the team’s future . ... Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Dean Pees announced his retirement following a successful NFL career that began with New England. Pees, 68, told players of his decision less than 24 hours after the Ravens were eliminated from playoff contention.

McCoy update

Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott says test results on LeSean McCoy’s injured right ankle were negative, giving the running back a chance to play against Jacksonville in the AFC wild-card game Sunday.

Chief concern

The Kansas City Chiefs, who won their regular-season finale, have been dealing with an illness that has ripped through the club, forcing everyone from stars such as Justin Houston and Travis Kelce to role players such as Charcandrick West to miss practice or games. “We’ve tried to quarantine the guys the best we could, get them out of the building,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. “Quarantine’s not the right word, but we’ve tried to get them away from the team, tried to isolate them the best we can.”

Reid sounded optimistic that his players felled by illness would be ready for the Chiefs’ playoff game against Tennessee on Saturday.

Trouble over toss

Miami Dolphins running back Kenyan Drake says it was stupid for him to throw a helmet and get tossed from Sunday’s game, and he’s bracing for a possible fine or other punishment from the NFL. Drake became involved in a wrestling match in the bottom of a pile, and when Buffalo defensive end Ryan Davis’ helmet came off, Drake picked it up and threw it 20 yards.

Deal for Dunbar

The Washington Redskins signed cornerback Quinton Dunbar to a multiyear deal. The team announced the contract after finishing its season at 7-9.
