No. 1 Villanova barely hangs on

Jalen Brunson scored 31 points despite leaving the game briefly because of a left ankle injury, Donte DiVincenzo had 23 points and topranked Villanova defeated Marquette 85-82 on Sunday in Milwaukee.

Four players scored in double figures for the Wildcats (20-1, 7-1 Big East Conference), who turned away several Golden Eagles (13-8, 4-5) surges to survive.

Andrew Rowsey led Marquette with 27 points, including a three-point basket that pulled the Golden Eagles to 83-80 with 1 minute 30 seconds left.

“In the first half, we couldn’t stop anything,” Villanova coach Jay Wright said. “Second half, we stopped them a little bit and that was the difference.”

No. 3 Purdue 74, at Indiana 67: Isaac Haas matched his career high with 26 points and the Boilermake­rs (21-2, 10-0 Big Ten) picked up their school-record 17th consecutiv­e victory. Juwan Morgan had 24 points for the Hoosiers (12-10, 5-5).

No. 6 Michigan State 74, at Maryland 68: Joshua Langford scored 19 points for the Spartans (20-3, 8-2 Big Ten) and helped give coach Tom Izzo his seventh 20-win season in a row. Kevin Huerter had 17 points for the Terrapins (15-8, 4-6), who have lost five of seven games.

at No. 17 Wichita State 90, Tulsa 71: Austin Reaves made seven three-point baskets in the first half, when he scored all of his career-high 23 points, to lead the Shockers (17-4, 7-2 American Athletic Conference). Corey Henderson scored 28 points for the Golden Hurricane (1110, 4-5).

No. 18 Clemson 72, at Georgia Tech 70: Gabe DeVoe scored a career-high 25 points and Marcquise Reed made a decisive layup with 25 seconds to play to lift the Tigers (17-4, 6-3 Atlantic Coast Conference). Josh Okogie had 26 points for the Yellow Jackets (10-11, 3-5).
