HONORING TWO OFFICERS

-

Mourners gather and leave flowers next to a police cruiser parked in front of City Hall in Westerville, Ohio, on Sunday. Two police officers in the Columbus suburb, Anthony Morelli, 54, and Eric Joering, 39, were fatally shot on Saturday afternoon after entering a town house in response to a “potential domestic situation.” Authorities arrested Quentin Lamar Smith, 30, who was wounded in the exchange of gunfire and was taken to a hospital. Members of the police force said they had been to Smith’s home several times over the last year in response to domestic violence complaints. His wife, Candace Smith, told police in November that her husband “has a gun that he carries all of the time, and if it isn’t on him, it is close by.”
