ATHLETES TO WATCH

- — Angel Rodriguez

Monday’s Olympic schedule includes 12 events in which seven gold medals will be decided. Here are some names to know for today’s events:

The Korean American snowboarding prodigy from Southern California will be going for gold in the halfpipe on Tuesday, weather permitting. Expect big things from the teenager on the halfpipe, and expect to see her and her effusive personality all over the morning talk shows back home.

She’s the smiling, giggling face of the U.S. team and now she actually gets to show her stuff on the track. Biney will be competing in the 500-meter short track race and is up against some stiff competition from world-record holder Elise Christie from Great Britain.

While Davis has made headlines recently with some controversial comments after not being selected as the U.S. flag bearer, he’s finally getting on the ice looking for more hardware. He’s a twotime silver medalist in 1,500meter speed skating, although he failed to qualify for the finals in Sochi.

Assuming the weather cooperates, Ligety will take to the slopes in the Alpine combined on Tuesday. Ligety, a gold-medal winner in Sochi in the giant slalom, finished 12th in Alpine combined in 2014 and is recovering from surgery on his knee in 2017. Still, it wouldn’t be a shock to see him on the podium.

5. Natalie Geisenberger (GER):

The returning goldmedal winner in the luge is back for her third Olympic Games. She burst on the scene as a 22-year-old in Vancouver with a bronze. She also won gold in doubles in Sochi and can become the first woman to ever win three gold medals in luge.
