Creighton downs Villanova in OT

A Creighton season that was beginning to head in the wrong direction righted itself in glorious fashion for at least one afternoon.

The Bluejays (20-9, 9-7 Big East Conference), who had lost three games in a row, were down eight to Villanova with four minutes left in regulation. With Marcus Foster and Khyri Thomas leading the way, and two freshmen making major contributi­ons, Creighton rallied to defeat the highest-ranked opponent in program history with an 89-83 upset of the No. 3 Wildcats (25-4, 12-4) in overtime.

“Sitting in the locker room, I couldn’t stop smiling,” said Foster, who scored 28 points. “I’m so happy how we won that game.”

No. 1 Virginia 66, at Pittsburgh 37: The Cavaliers gave up only seven points in the first half and secured the outright regular-season Atlantic Coast Conference title. Virginia (26-2, 15-1) held the Panthers (8-22, 0-17) to 11 field goals. at No. 5 Duke 60, Syracuse 44: Marvin Bagley III had 19 points in his return from a sprained knee for the Blue Devils (24-5, 12-4 ACC). The Orange (18-11, 7-9) had 17 turnovers.

No. 6 Gonzaga 79, at Brigham Young 65: Johnathan Williams scored 16 points as the Bulldogs (27-4, 17-1) clinched the West Coast Conference title. Yoeli Childs had 19 points for the Cougars (22-9, 11-7).

No. 8 Kansas 74, at No. 6 Texas Tech 72: The Jayhawks set an NCAA record with their 14th straight regular-season conference title, clinching at least a tie for the Big 12 title. Kansas (23-6, 12-4) never trailed against the Red Raiders (22-7, 10-6).

No. 17 Michigan 85, at Maryland 61: MuhammadAl­i Abdur-Rahkman scored 22 of his career-high 28 points before halftime for the Wolverines (24-7, 13-5 Big Ten), who handed the Terrapins (19-12, 810) their worst home loss since a 104-72 loss to Duke in 1998. at No. 22 St. Mary’s 67, Santa Clara 40: Jock Landale scored 19 points in his final home game for the Gaels (27-4, 16-2 WCC).
