JAVELERA, Barbara Kane

Devoted wife, mother, grandmothe­r and educator, Barbara passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, at age 87. Barbara was born in Dubuque, Iowa, the 7th of the 10 children of Allan and Stella Kane. After her sophomore year at Marquette University, she moved to Los Angeles to attend and graduate from the University of California, Los Angeles. After teaching within the Los Angeles Unified School District, Barbara moved to Europe to teach the children of military personnel. Upon returning to the US, she continued her teaching career in Los Angeles. She married her husband Mike in 1965, and was happily married for 44 years until Mike’s passing in 2009. Together, they raised three children, enjoyed travel and the arts, and immersed themselves in numerous charitable causes. A benevolent woman known for her kindness and gentle nature, she brought warmth and happiness to those who were fortunate enough to know her. A lifelong baseball fan, she treasured watching her beloved Dodgers. She is survived by her children Carlos Javelera (Joan Javelera), Michael Javelera, and Katie Javelera, grandchild­ren Maxwell, Mercedes, Inez, William, and Johnny, sisters Nancy and Mary Kane, and a large extended family.

A private family service will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery, Culver City, CA.
