Celtics’ Irving to have surgery on knee

- staff and wire reports

The Boston Celtics say All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving is set to have surgery Saturday to alleviate pain in his left knee.

Irving has been out since March 11. There is no timetable for his return, but the team says his status will be updated following the “minimally invasive” procedure. The knee is the same one that Irving injured in the 2015 NBA Finals that required surgery.

He’s averaging a team-high 24.4 points and 5.1 assists for Boston.
