Huizenga dies at 80

Wayne Huizenga, the founding owner of the Florida Marlins and the Florida Panthers who became a three-sport owner when he bought the Miami Dolphins in 1994, died late Thursday. He was 80.

He found fast success when the Marlins won the World Series in 1997 in just their fourth season, a year after the Panthers reached the Stanley Cup Final. But he lost popularity in dismantlin­g the roster after the season because the Marlins lost millions. He sold the Marlins in 1999, the Panthers in 2001 and the Dolphins in 2009.
