Wild lose Parise to broken sternum

- Wire reports

Minnesota Wild left wing Zach Parise has a broken sternum that will keep him out for multiple weeks, an injury that occurred late in Game 3 of their first-round playoff series against Winnipeg.

The Wild revealed the injury Tuesday, about three hours before Game 4 against the Jets. General manager Chuck Fletcher announced Parise’s status as “week to week.”

Parise scored in each of the first three games of the series. He is the Wild’s all-time playoffs leader with 14 goals and 31 points.

After recovering from microdiscectomy surgery on his back and sitting out the first 39 games, Parise scored 12 goals in the last 19 games of the regular season.

The Wild were already without standout defenseman Ryan Suter because of a broken ankle.

Pittsburgh Penguins coach Mike Sullivan said Patric Hornqvist will not play in Game 4 of the first-round series against the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday night because of an upper-body injury.

The Calgary Flames fired coach Glen Gulutzan after two seasons.

Assistants Dave Cameron and Paul Jerrard were also relieved of their duties.

Gulutzan led the Flames to the playoffs in his first season in Calgary, eventually being swept by the Ducks. But the club did not reach the playoffs this season after posting a 37-35-10 record.

Calgary held the Western Conference’s final wild-card spot Feb. 25 but finished 12th overall after finishing the season with only two victories over its final 11 regular-season games.
