Reid files grievance against the league

-

The NFL players’ union says former San Francisco 49ers safety Eric Reid filed a grievance against the league, alleging that he remains unsigned as a result of collusion by owners. Reid had joined former teammate Colin Kaepernick two seasons ago in kneeling during the national anthem to protest police brutality and racial inequality.

Kaepernick wasn’t signed for the 2017 season following his release in San Francisco. Reid continued the quarterback’s protests. The 26-year-old safety became a free agent this offseason when his rookie contract expired.

The Chargers officially picked up the fifth-year option on running back Melvin Gordon, extending the former first-round pick’s contract through the 2019 season.

Gordon ran for 1,105 yards and caught 58 passes for 476 yards to go with 12 touchdowns last season. It was the first time in three years that Gordon rushed for more than 1,000 yards.

Gordon, 25, will earn more than $5.6 million in the fifth year of his contract.

The 15th pick of the 2015 draft appeared in all 16 games last season. He hasn’t been at the team’s voluntary offseason conditioning workouts.
