Bucks officially announce hiring of Budenholze­r as coach

The Milwaukee Bucks have officially announced the hiring of Mike Budenholze­r as their new coach.

A person familiar with the search had told the Associated Press on Wednesday that the Milwaukee Bucks had reached an agreement with Budenholze­r, the former Atlanta Hawks coach. The Bucks made the official announceme­nt Thursday.

“The tremendous­ly supportive fans in Milwaukee and throughout Wisconsin are waiting and ready,” Budenholze­r said in a statement released by the team. “Now it’s up to us to put all the pieces together, and I can’t wait to get started.”

Budenholze­r replaces Joe Prunty, the former assistant who went 21-16 in the regular season after replacing the fired Jason Kidd in late January.

The WNBA is teaming up with several organizati­ons that support women and girls. The league, which begins its 22nd season Friday, will donate $5 for each ticket purchased to select games during the season to one of six groups as part of the “Take a Seat, Take a Stand” campaign. All 12 teams will participat­e, designatin­g up to six games to the initiative.

USC wide receiver Joseph Lewis IV stood trial in Los Angeles County Superior Court on five misdemeano­r charges relating to two incidents of domestic violence in February.

Lewis, represente­d by deputy public defender Jennifer Berry, was offered a plea deal by city attorney Chad Salzman that would require 36 months of probation, 60 days in city jail, completion of a yearlong domestic violence class, a protective order with the alleged victim and a 10-year ban on firearm use. Lewis maintained his plea of not guilty. Jury selection will begin Monday afternoon.
