Raptors to hire Nurse as coach

- Wire and staff reports — Broderick Turner

Nick Nurse has agreed to become the next coach of the Toronto Raptors, a person with knowledge of the situation told the Associated Press on Tuesday.

Nurse is replacing Dwane Casey, who was fired after Toronto was swept from the second round of the playoffs by Cleveland. Nurse worked under Casey the last five seasons as an assistant.

According to the person who spoke to the AP, Nurse was in the process of completing contract terms and reaching out to staff Tuesday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the team had not announced the hiring.

The Raptors went 59-23 this season, the top record in the Eastern Conference and second-best regular-season record in the NBA.

Golden State fans in gold and blue, and holding signs that read “Dynasty” lined the streets as Oakland celebrated another Warriors title with a parade downtown. The Warriors rode by in open, double-decker buses. Stephen Curry, NBA Finals MVP Kevin Durant and the rest of the team took turns raising the Larry O’Brien Trophy.

Clippers owner Steve Ballmer and Inglewood officials held a news conference announcing they would introduce legislation AB 987 in their quest to build a basketball arena in the city. The bill will provide shortcuts for approval if the proposed project faces challenges under California’s primary environmental law governing development.
