Ex-Baylor AD claims coverup

The former athletic director at Baylor University has claimed regents schemed to make black football players scapegoats for a decades-long problem of sexual assault at the nation’s largest Baptist school.

Excerpts taken from Ian McCaw’s June 19 deposition appear in documents filed Wednesday in a federal lawsuit pending against Baylor. Ten women are suing the school over how it handled their allegation­s of sexual assault.

Baylor officials said McCaw’s testimony is “selectivel­y quoted” and based on speculatio­n.

The No. 1 two-sport athlete in California, Drake London of Moorpark, announced via Twitter that he has committed to USC and will play football and basketball. The 6-foot-4 London is a receiver in football and a guard in basketball. — Eric Sondheimer

Serena Williams was seeded No. 25 for her return to Wimbledon after having a baby, a decision by the All England Club that elevates the tournament’s seven-time champion above her ranking of 183rd. By moving Williams into the top 32, the All England Club afforded her “protection” from facing any other seeded player in the first two rounds. The draw for Wimbledon is Friday; play begins Monday.

A body found inside a beer cooler at the major league home of the Atlanta Braves was Todd Keeling, a 48-year-old Minnesota inventor who was doing contract work at the stadium, police in Atlanta’s suburbs said.

An autopsy was planned.

Phil Rodgers, 80, a five-time winner on the PGA Tour who became one of golf ’s top instructor­s, died Tuesday in San Diego after a battle with leukemia. He won the 1962 Los Angeles Open at Rancho Park for his first title.
