Two tied atop Senior British

Miguel Angel Jimenez and Stephen Ames shared the lead at nine under when darkness ended play early in the second round of the Senior British Open at St. Andrews, Scotland.

Ames is among 18 players who must return Saturday morning to complete their rounds. Earlier, Jimenez fired a five-under 67 for a total of 135, one better than American pair Jeff Sluman (68) and Kirk Triplett (71), and defending champion Bernhard Langer (69).

Among three players in the clubhouse on 137 was three-time winner Tom Watson, who remarkably shot his age by posting a 68.

“I have been playing well and I attribute it to practicing quite hard before I came here,” he said. “I shot 68 on the Old Course under pretty good conditions.”

To the delight of the crowd, Scottish pair Sandy Lyle (66) and Colin Montgomeri­e (68) were among a group at five-under 139.

Former UCLA star Tiffany Joh shot a four-under 67 to stay in front after the second round of the Ladies Scottish Open . ... Keegan Bradley played the last four holes in six under and had three eagles to pull within a shot of leader Kevin Tway in the RBC Canadian Open . ... American Bryson DeChambeau reeled off four birdies in the last seven holes to shoot a four-under 68 and stay on top by a stroke after the second round of the European Open in Germany.

Clint Capela signed a five-year, $90-million extension with the Houston Rockets. The 24-year-old forward had career highs last season of 13.9 points, 10.8 rebounds, 1.9 blocks and 74 starts . ... The Clippers waived guard C.J. Williams, a two-way player last season. He averaged 5.5 points in 38 games.

The Washington Capitals re-signed right winger Tom Wilson to a $31.02-million, six-year deal. The 24year-old had 14 goals and 21 assists last season.

The Kings and Ducks will participat­e in a sixteam rookie tournament in Las Vegas on Sept. 8-11. The Ducks will host the event next year at their new Great Park facility in Irvine . ... Matjaz Kopitar, father of Kings center Anze Kopitar, stepped down as coach of the Slovenian national team to work as a European scout for the Kings.

American John Isner advanced to the BB&T Atlanta Open semifinals for the ninth straight year, beating Mischa Zverev 7-5, 4-6, 6-1. Isner will face Matthew Ebden, who beat Marcos Baghdatis 6-3, 6-2 . ... Zhu Lin upset top-seeded Zhang Shuai 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-1 in a quarterfin­al at China’s Jiangxi Open.

Geraint Thomas kept the yellow jersey on the final mountain stage of the Tour de France while Sky teammate and four-time champion Chris Froome lost his spot on the podium. Slovenian Primoz Roglic won the 19th leg through the Pyrenees.

The Internatio­nal Assn. of Athletics Federation­s says Russia could be provisiona­lly reinstated to worldwide track and field competitio­n in December if it continues to make “significan­t improvemen­t.”
