Former Trojan Barkley signs with the Bills

- Wire reports

Former USC quarterback Matt Barkley signed Wednesday with the Buffalo Bills, who are banged up and thinly experienced at the position.

Barkley has been out since injuring his left knee in the Cincinnati Bengals’ exhibition finale. He was put on injured reserve and then released Sept. 12.

The Bills are in need of quarterback help with rookie starter Josh Allen sitting out his third game because of a sprained right elbow. Veteran backup Derek Anderson’s status is uncertain after he suffered a concussion against New England on Monday night.

That leaves Buffalo with the prospect of starting turnover-prone backup Nathan Peterman against the Chicago Bears on Sunday.

Bears’ Long has tendon injury

Right guard Kyle Long has a tendon injury in his right foot and the Bears are deciding whether to put him on injured reserve.

Coach Matt Nagy said the three-time Pro Bowl lineman has a boot on the foot and is week to week. The Bears are trying to figure out the extent of the injury.

Tannehill ruled out

Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the New York Jets, meaning Brock Osweiler will start for the fourth game in a row.

Tannehill, recovering from a shoulder injury suffered in Week 5, was limited in practice. He has begun throwing, but improvement in the shoulder has been unpredictable, coach Adam Gase said.

Jets add partner

The Jets and MGM Resorts International agreed on a multiyear deal, the first of its kind in the NFL.

MGM Resorts is now the official gambling partner of the Jets. The deal includes giving fans access to an enhanced mobile game that can be played through the team’s app and marketing aspects, such as signage at MetLife Stadium.
