Auburn takes control early, blows out Washington

-

Chuma Okeke had 19 points and 10 rebounds, and Samir Doughty scored 18 to lead No. 11 Auburn to an 8866 victory over No. 25 Washington on Friday night.

The Tigers (2-0) raced to an 18-point halftime lead and pushed it to 30 in their first home win over a ranked nonconference team in nearly 48 years.

Center Austin Wiley played for the first time in more than a season, scoring five points in 13 minutes. Wiley, who was forced to sit out last season as part of a federal probe into corruption in college basketball, missed the opener with a left foot injury.

at No. 2 Kentucky 71, Southern Illinois 59: Keldon Johnson and Immanuel Quickley each scored 15 points, Nick Richards grabbed a career-high 19 rebounds and the Wildcats (1-1) rallied in the second half.

Kentucky managed to bounce back from Tuesday’s 118-84 shellacking by No. 4 Duke but had to work hard in the second half to overcome sloppy play and the veteran Salukis (0-1).

Buffalo 99, at No. 13 West Virginia 94 (OT): CJ Massinburg had 43 points and 14 rebounds as Buffalo stunned the Mountaineers (1-0) in overtime.

The Bulls (1-0) rallied with a late 15-4 surge to force overtime before outscoring the Mountaineers 15-10 in overtime.

at No. 14 Oregon 81, Eastern Washington 47: Freshman Bol Bol had 23 points and 12 rebounds as the Ducks rode their stifling defense to a victory.

Bol’s double-double, his second for the Ducks (2-0), was capped by a spinning drive from the left wing that sent his defender sprawling and led to a rim-hanging, two-hand dunk for a technical foul. It also gave Oregon its largest lead at 42 points.

at No. 12 Kansas State 56, Kennesaw State 41: Barry Brown and Makol Mawien each scored 15 points for the Wildcats, who won their 24th straight nonconference game at Bramlage Coliseum despite playing without Xavier Sneed, one of the stars of the Elite Eight run last season.

Kansas State led just 3127 at halftime before leaning on its stingy defense to embark on a late run.

at No. 6 Tennessee 87, Louisiana-Lafayette 65: Grant Williams scored 31 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and showcased his newfound three-point range in a Volunteers rout.

Williams was three of four from beyond the arc to match his 2017-18 season total for three-pointers.

at No. 22 Clemson 71, North Carolina Central 51: David Skara made two of Clemson’s eight straight baskets to start the game as the Tigers (2-0) opened a 2311 advantage about eight minutes in and quickly took control.

Raasean Davis led the Eagles with 14 points.

at No. 23 Louisiana State 97, UNC Greensboro 91: The Tigers led by 16 points with seven minutes left before withstanding a rally.

UNC-Greensboro (1-1) went on a 22-11 run to pull to 93-88 with 13 seconds to play, but Skylar Mays and Tremont Waters each made a pair of foul shots for Louisiana State (2-0).
