Djokovic advances to ATP Finals’ last four

Novak Djokovic overcame an illness, and Alexander Zverev, to advance to the last four of the ATP Finals at London.

Using a tissue to blow his nose between points, Djokovic was able to beat Zverev 6-4, 6-1 for his second consecutiv­e victory of the tournament.

Djokovic’s passage to an eighth semifinal at the season-ending tournament was confirmed when Marin

Cilic defeated American John Isner 6-7 (2), 6-3 6-4.

The five-time champion saved two break points at 4-4 in the opening set and broke Zverev in the next game to take the lead. Zverev won only one more game.

Former Wimbledon finalist Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland announced she is retiring from tennis after a 13-year career.

Radwanska, 29, won 20 WTA titles and reached a career-high ranking of No. 2. She lost to Serena Williams in three sets in the Wimbledon final in 2012.

She decided to retire because she is “no longer able to train and play the way I used to.”

Forward Austin Watson was reinstated to the Nashville Predators’ roster after serving an 18-game suspension for domestic abuse.

Watson issued a statement through the NHL Players’ Assn. apologizin­g to everyone for the June incident that cost him the start of the season.

General manager Jim Rutherford had his contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins extended through the 202122 season. His previous contract was set to expire at the end of this season.

Rutherford, 69, is the only GM to win Stanley Cups with multiple teams since the NHL expanded in 1967.

He put together the Carolina Hurricanes group that won the franchise’s only Cup, in 2006, and helped the Penguins become the first team in nearly 20 years to win consecutiv­e championsh­ips, in 2016 and 2017.

North Carolina State announced that the arena in Reynolds Coliseum will be named in honor of Jim Valvano, the school’s former men’s basketball coach. It will be dedicated Dec. 5.

Valvano, who died of cancer in 1993, guided the Wolfpack to the 1983 national championsh­ip.

Miami has agreed to pay Arkansas State $400,000 for a 2017 football game that was canceled because of Hurricane Irma and not reschedule­d.
