Round-trip L.A. cruises

- — Rosemary McClure

Sail north to Alaska on a new series of cruises that begin and end in the Port of Los Angeles. These cruises give you more time at sea and mean you won’t have to spend money to fly to your port of embarkation.

Princess Cruises will launch a full summer season of 14day Alaska Inside Passage voyages in 2020, sailing round trip from L.A.’s World Cruise Center in San Pedro. The sailings will be in May, June and July. Reservations went on sale Friday. Six new sailings are a contrast to the line’s current schedule, which includes three round-trip San Pedro sailings to Alaska in 2019, all on dates generally outside the main season: April 23 and 27 and Sept. 17. Inside cabins begin at $1,349.

Round-trip Alaska cruises departing from L.A. visit the Inside Passage plus Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, Glacier Bay and Victoria, Canada, before returning to California.

Most other Alaska cruises depart from Seattle, Vancouver or Victoria. Many are weeklong cruise packages that end or begin in Anchorage.

Various Princess ships will sail the 2019 voyages. The 2020 voyages will be aboard the Grand Princess, which holds 2,600 passengers. Prices are not yet set for the 2020 voyages.

Round-trip cruises are sought by people who would rather not fly or would enjoy spending more time at sea. Info: (800) 774-6237, lat.ms/princessalaska or contact a travel agent.
