No. 13 Virginia Tech pulls away
Ahmed Hill and No. 13 Virginia Tech knew their strong finish to the first half wasn’t going to be enough to satisfy coach Buzz Williams.
The Hokies got the message at halftime and quickly pulled away from St. Francis for a 75-37 victory Saturday at Blacksburg, Va.
“Buzz came in and got on us for not playing hard, playing our style of ball,” said Hill, who finished with 19 points. “The group that came out to start, we wanted to make a statement by coming out, playing hard, getting in transition and I think that’s what we did. We started playing for one another and just upped the tempo of the game.”
The Hokies (5-0) led 2320 when a three-pointer by Ty Outlaw sparked a 10-2 run to end the first half. Nickeil Alexander-Walker made another three-pointer right after halftime, and the Hokies pushed the lead to 47-26.
Myles Thompson led the Red Flash (1-4) with 14 points. St. Francis, which lost to UCLA 95-58 this season, shot only 25.9% and committed 22 turnovers.
at No. 12 Kansas State 77,
Lehigh 58: Dean Wade scored 14 of his 18 points in the second half, Barry Brown added 16 and the Wildcats (6-0) pulled away after leading by two at the break.
Kansas continued to have shooting woes at home, making only six of 20 threepoint tries.
Lehigh (4-2) committed 16 turnovers and shot only 28% in the second half after shooting 54% in the first 20 minutes.
at No. 22 Buffalo 76, Marist 49: CJ Massinburg scored 21 points and Bulls shot 50% from three-point range to win their fourth in a row.
Massinburg returned after missing one game with a sprained knee and made six of seven three-point tries in 25 minutes off the bench.
