UCLA’s Wilson All-Pac-12; zero Trojans on first team

- Staff reports

USC and UCLA combined to win only eight football games this season, and that lack of success was evident Tuesday when the Pac-12 announced its all-conference teams.

Bruins tight end Caleb Wilson, a redshirt junior, was the only player from either school to be selected to the first team. It’s the first time since 2000 that the Trojans failed to have a player chosen to the first team.

Senior safety Adarius Pickett was the only UCLA player selected to the second team. USC has five players on the second team: senior right tackle Chuma Edoga, senior linebacker Cameron Smith, senior linebacker Porter Gustin, senior cornerback Iman Marshall and redshirt freshman defensive tackle Jay Tufele.

Each school had five players named honorable mention.

From USC: senior cornerback Ajene Harris, senior center Toa Lobendahn, redshirt junior wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr., senior safety Marvell Tell III and redshirt sophomore wide receiver Tyler Vaughns.

From UCLA: redshirt junior running back Joshua Kelley, sophomore cornerback Darnay Holmes, junior receiver Theo Howard, senior punter Stefan Flintoft and junior kicker JJ Molson.

Washington State quarterback Gardner Minshew was selected the Pac-12’s offensive player of the year and the Cougars’ Mike Leach was chosen coach of the year. Washington linebacker Ben Burr-Kirven is the defensive player of the year.
