Nowitzki takes over sixth on scoring list

Dirk Nowitzki passed Wilt Chamberlain for sixth place on the NBA’s career scoring list, but Elfrid Payton had his fifth straight tripledouble to help the New Orleans Pelicans beat the host Dallas Mavericks 129-125 in overtime Monday night.
Payton finished with 19 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds. Dallas rookie Luka Doncic also had a triple-double with 29 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists.
Julius Randle scored 11 of his 30 points in the final 3:29 of regulation, helping the Pelicans rally to force overtime. New Orleans ended a six-game skid.
Nowitzki moved past Chamberlain (31,419 points) on a jumper from the top of the key with 8:35 left in the first quarter.
Nowitzki scored eight points, giving him 31,424 in his 21 seasons — trailing only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Michael Jordan.
“It’s amazing the things he has accomplished,” Doncic said of the 40-year-old German.
Denver 114, at Boston 105: Nikola Jokic had 21 points and 13 rebounds, and the Nuggets rallied in the fourth quarter to beat the Celtics and clinch a playoff spot for the first time since 2013. Kyrie Irving paced Boston with 30 points.
at San Antonio 111, Golden State
105: DeMar DeRozan had 26 points and nine rebounds, and the Spurs beat the Warriors for their ninth straight win. San Antonio moved into a tie for fifth in the Western Conference after Oklahoma City’s loss. Stephen Curry scored 25 for Golden State, which fell into a tie with Denver for first in the West.

Goran Dragic had 26 points and 11 assists, and the Heat took advantage of Russell Westbrook’s one-game suspension absence.

Damian Lillard had 30 points and 15 assists as the Trail Blazers won without the injured CJ McCollum.
at Toronto 128, New York 92: Jeremy Lin had 20 points, and the Raptors routed the Knicks. Toronto guard Kyle Lowry left with an injured right ankle in the second half.
Utah 116, at Washington 95: Rudy Gobert had 14 points and 14 rebounds to power the Jazz.

Collin Sexton scored 27 points and made a late go-ahead three-pointer, helping the Cavaliers prevail.
Chicago 116, at Phoenix 101: Robin Lopez had 24 points to help the Bulls end a five-game skid.
