Portland State player is shot dead

Portland State basketball player Deante Strickland was fatally shot at a house in the city, the school confirmed.

Strickland, 22, was a key reserve the past two seasons, averaging 7.4 points in 65 games. He was planning to play running back for the football team this fall.

Police told the Oregonian the shooter was a woman, multiple people were injured and they were searching for a woman who arrived and left in an SUV with a child.
