At this rate, Brady might be first player with AARP card

- By Chuck Schilken

Tom Brady no longer wants to play until he’s 45.

That’s the age the New England Patriots quarterback has often mentioned when talking about when his NFL career might come to an end. Just last month he said on Westwood One radio: “I have set that number for a long time, and I work pretty hard at it every day.”

Those workouts apparently are going quite well. Brady’s personal trainer, Alex Guerrero told a Boston radio station Thursday that the 42-year-old quarterback seems to have added another year or two to his longterm goal.

“Every year he just adds another year,” Guerrero said.

“He goes in, he’s like, ‘Guys, I just feel so good still. I think I am going to go til 45.’ I am like, ‘OK.’

“Now he’s like, ‘Alex, I think I can go like 46 or 47.’ ” Yikes. Not sure what exactly he would have left to accomplish in the league half a decade from now. Brady already has won more Super Bowls (six) than any player, most recently nine months ago against the Rams.

He’s been the league most valuable player three times and is considered by many to be the greatest NFL quarterback of all time.

Maybe he just wants to outlast 40-year-old New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, who is the only player ahead of Brady in the record books for most yards passing (75,505 to 73,050) and trails Brady for No. 2 on the all-time passing touchdowns list (531 to 526); nowretired Peyton Manning has 539 and is likely to be passed by both players sometime this season.

Where’s Colin going?

In case you haven’t heard, the NFL is holding a private workout for Colin Kaepernick on Saturday in Atlanta. All 32 teams have been invited to attend, and 11 have already indicated they plan to send someone to see what the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback can do after nearly three seasons away from the league.

Of course, Week 11 does seem kind of late in the season for this kind of thing. And any team could have picked up a phone and arranged something like this at pretty much any point since Kaepernick became a free agent in early 2017.

But you never know. Maybe he will impress some team enough that it decides to give him a shot.

BetOnline.ag has released odds on which team that might be, with the Cincinnati Bengals emerging as the favorite (7-2 odds) to sign Kaepernick by the end of the regular season.

The Bengals have an 0-9 record and are giving rookie Ryan Finley an extended tryout at quarterback.

But if that experiment fails miserably, maybe they would want to give Kaepernick a similar opportunity.

Like Cincinnati, the next two favorites are also from the AFC North — the Pittsburgh Steelers (4-1 odds) and Baltimore Ravens (6-1). Both teams have been playing well with their young quarterbacks, but perhaps the thinking is they might be looking for an upgrade at backup.

Some fans here in L.A. aren’t too happy with the Rams’ quarterback situation, but BetOnline.ag doesn’t seem to think the team will scoop up Kaepernick (20-1 odds).

No odds were listed for the Chargers.

Least likely to sign the Super Bowl XLVII starter? The Dallas Cowboys, who like to have all their players standing on the sideline for the national anthem, and the New England Patriots, who were recently burned with a big-name signing with the initials A.B. Both those teams were given 50-1 odds.

NFL teams’ odds of signing Kaepernick:

Bengals 7-2 Steelers 4-1 Ravens 6-1 Bills 7-1 Raiders 7-1 Panthers 8-1 Texans 10-1 Bears 12-1 Buccaneers 12-1 Cardinals 15-1 49ers 16-1 Colts 20-1 Rams 20-1 Browns 25-1 Eagles 33-1 Cowboys 50-1 Patriots 50-1
