USC’s Jackson declares for draft

Austin Jackson, the anchor of an improved USC offensive line last season, is off to the NFL.

The junior left tackle announced on social media that he will forgo his final season of eligibilit­y at USC and declare for the draft.

“USC has truly been such a special place to call home for the last three years,” Jackson wrote. “Thank you to the boys on this team. I couldn’t imagine a better group to have played with. It’s been an honor to be a part of this incredible Trojan brotherhoo­d and to go to war with you guys every day.” — Ryan Kartje

Bobby Petrino, a coach with a track record of on-thefield success and off-the-field embarrassm­ents, will be the next football coach at Missouri State. The Springfiel­dbased university said that Petrino, 58, will be introduced at a news conference Thursday. He will replace Dave Steckel, who was fired last week after winning only 13 games in five seasons . ... Junior Ashley Sanchez has announced her departure from UCLA to pursue profession­al soccer opportunit­ies.

Sanchez, a member of the U.S. women’s national team program, was a 2018 first-team All-American and is the Bruins’ all-time assists leader with 42.
