LSU brings back Pelini to coach

Reigning national champion Louisiana State is bringing back Bo Pelini as defensive coordinato­r, the position he held when the Tigers won a national championsh­ip in the 2007 season . ... Oklahoma hired DeMarco Murray as its running backs coach, bringing back the school’s career leader in allpurpose yards, career touchdowns and kickoff return average . ... Rocky Long is returning to New Mexico as defensive coordinato­r after recently retiring from San Diego State, where he coached the Aztecs to nine straight bowl games.

C.J. Pollard, a safety who starred at Serra High before joining USC, will leave the Trojans to play his final season elsewhere as a graduate transfer. Pollard announced his intention to enter the NCAA transfer portal.

After being a redshirt his freshman year, Pollard played in 27 games over the next three seasons and was credited with 31 total tackles. As a graduate, Pollard will be immediatel­y eligible to play wherever he chooses to transfer.

A person familiar with the decision told AP that the Cleveland Browns will hire Andrew Berry, the Eagles vice president of football operations, as their new general manager . ... Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer promoted his son to help fill a key vacancy on his staff, appointing Adam Zimmer and Andre Patterson as co-defensive coordinato­rs.

The Pittsburgh Pirates sent two-time Gold Glove outfielder and 2016 All-Star Starling Marte to the Arizona Diamondbac­ks for prospects Liover Peguero and pitcher Brennan Malone . ... A person familiar with the deal told AP that free-agent outfielder Nicholas Castellano­s agreed to a $64-million, four-year deal with the Cincinnati Reds.

The Columbus Blue Jackets signed forward Eric Robinson to a two-year contract extension.

Skylar Diggins-Smith, who missed last season after giving birth to a son last spring, told AP that she doesn’t plan to play for the Dallas Wings next season.
