No. 3 Oregon women rout No. 4 UConn in Storrs

- Associated press

Coach Kelly Graves and Oregon made history, handing Connecticut one of its worst home losses under Geno Auriemma.

Ruthy Hebard had 22 points and 12 rebounds as No. 3 Oregon rolled past the fourth-ranked Huskies 74-56 on Monday night in Storrs, Conn., UConn’s first loss on campus in seven years.

UConn had never had a defeat this bad while playing in Gampel Pavilion, which opened in 1990.

“It means a lot,” Graves said. “They’ve been so good for so long. It means a great deal . ... Who doesn’t look up to Geno? He’s an icon and great coach.”

It was UConn’s worst home loss on any court since Dec. 5, 2005, when North Carolina beat the Huskies by 23 points in Hartford, Conn., their other home.

UConn’s previous worst margin of defeat at Gampel was 17 points against Iowa in 1990 and against Syracuse in 1992.

“They came in here and did something that very few people have been able to do,” said Auriemma, who has coached the Huskies since 1985.

Sabrina Ionescu added 10 points, nine rebounds and nine assists for the Ducks (20-2), falling short of increasing her NCAA-record 23 triple-doubles.

“It’s where we’re trying to get our program and model after them,” Ionescu said. “Huge for us to do what we did.”

The Ducks built a big lead early, disappointing the sellout crowd. UConn hadn’t lost on campus since falling to Notre Dame on Jan. 5, 2013. The Huskies were beaten by No. 2 Baylor by 16 points in Hartford last month, ending their 98game home winning streak.

Crystal Dangerfield led UConn (19-2) with 19 points. It was the first time the Ducks have beaten the Huskies in four meetings.

Baylor men prevail

Jared Butler scored 20 points, and the No. 1 Baylor men’s team extended its school-record win streak to 19 by beating Kansas State 73-67 in Manhattan, Kan.

MaCio Teague added 15 points and Davion Mitchell scored 13 for the Bears (20-1, 9-0), who are off to the best start in league play by any Big 12 Conference team since 2011.

Xavier Sneed tied a career high with 23 points and Cartier Diarra added 11 for the Wildcats (9-13, 2-7), who lost to Baylor for the first time since 2017.

at No. 3 Kansas 69, Texas 58: Udoka Azubuike scored 17 points, and the Jayhawks (19-3, 8-1 Big 12) defeated the Longhorns (14-8, 4-5). Devon Dotson added 16 points for Kansas, which has won seven consecutive games, including four in a row since an ugly brawl in the closing seconds of a victory over rival Kansas State. Matt Coleman III scored 20 points to lead Texas.

at No. 8 Florida State 65, North Carolina 59: Patrick Williams had 14 points and nine rebounds, Trent Forrest also scored 14 points, and the Seminoles (19-3, 9-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) beat the Tar Heels (10-12, 3-8). Cole Anthony started in his second game back from knee surgery for North Carolina. The freshman guard scored 16 points and added seven rebounds.
