Celtics pull away in the fourth quarter

Jayson Tatum had 33 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Boston Celtics over the Utah Jazz 114-103 on Wednesday night at Salt Lake City.

After a back-and-forth third quarter, Boston created some separation early in the fourth.

The Celtics ended an 82-82 tie on a three-point basket by Gordon Hayward in the final minute of the third.

Marcus Smart then made three outside shots and Enes Kanter had three baskets in the paint to help Boston extend its lead to 100-87 with 7 minutes 22 seconds to play.

Smart finished with 17 points and teammate Jaylen Brown scored 20 points.

Donovan Mitchell scored 37 points for the Jazz, who lost their fourth game in a row, all at home.

at Cleveland 108, Philadelph­ia 94:

Collin Sexton scored 28 points for the Cavaliers, who never trailed. The 76ers lost All-Star center Joel Embiid in the first quarter because of a sprained left shoulder and dropped to 9-21 on the road.

at Washington 110, Brooklyn 106:

Jerome Robinson’s three-point basket with 8.4 seconds left lifted the Wizards, who squandered an 18-point lead. Bradley Beal led Washington with 30 points.

Minnesota 129, at Miami 126: Jordan McLaughlin’s layup with just under nine seconds left put the Timberwolv­es ahead for good. They trailed by 12 points with 3:59 to play but closed with a 20-5 run. He finished with 13 points.

Orlando 130, at Atlanta 120: The Magic put the Hawks away with a 14-5 spurt late in the fourth quarter. Evan Fournier scored 28 points for Orlando and Trae Young had 37 for Atlanta.

at Charlotte 107, New York 101:

Terry Rozier scored 26 points and the Hornets handed the Knicks their fifth defeat in a row. Charlotte led by 15 points in the second half and held on to end a skid at two games.

at Houston 140, Memphis 112: Despite sitting out with about six minutes to play, Russell Westbrook scored 33 points and James Harden had 30 without playing the fourth quarter as the Rockets cruised.

Dallas 109, at San Antonio 103: The Mavericks scored only one point in the first six minutes of the fourth quarter but managed to prevail. Luka Doncic had 26 points, 14 assists and 10 rebounds, and Kristaps Porzingis had 28 points and 12 rebounds for Dallas.
