Arizona holds off Washington

Arizona opened the Pac-12 Conference men’s basketball tournament at TMobile Arena in Las Vegas with a 77-70 victory over Washington on Wednesday afternoon.

The Wildcats (21-11) held the Huskies (15-17) without a field goal in the first 61⁄2 minutes of the second half, stretching a five-point lead to 15 points.

Josh Green scored 19 points for Arizona, which will take on USC in a quarterfin­al matchup Thursday.

“We lost last week to Washington, so our biggest thing was coming back to practice, working on what we’ve got to work on, come to the tournament all guns going,” coach Sean Miller said.

“I think our team did a great job. We really locked in last week at practice and I think we’re going to keep it going.”

Washington was three of 23 in three-point shots and committed 19 turnovers.

Isaiah Stewart led the Huskies with 29 points and 12 rebounds.

Oregon State 71, Utah 69: Jarod Lucas made a threepoint basket with 1.8 seconds

left and the Beavers (18-13) withstood Alfonso Plummer’s conference­record 11 three-pointers to set up a quarterfin­al game with Oregon on Thursday.

The Utes (16-15) led by 14 points early in the second half behind Plummer, who finished with 35 points.

Tres Tinkle had 19 points for the Beavers and Lucas

had 12.

“Our seniors in the last couple of timeouts said ‘We’re winning this game. Keep believing it, we’re winning this game,’ ” coach Wayne Tinkle said. “And what a finish. Just incredible.”

California 63, Stanford 51: Matt Bradley and Paris

Austin each scored 18 points to help the Golden Bears (1418) advance to a quarterfin­al game with UCLA on Thursday.

“It’s been a long time since we played UCLA,” coach Mark Fox said. “They’re a completely different team. We couldn’t score, their defense was elite.”

The Bruins beat the Golden Bears 50-40 on Jan. 19.

Daejon Davis had 16 points for the Cardinal (2012), who made only 17 of 53 (32%) shots.

The Golden Bears jumped to a 7-0 lead and never trailed, although Stanford tied it 17-17.

Cal built its largest lead at 16 points late in the game.

Washington State 82, Colorado 68: CJ Elleby had 30 points and 10 rebounds, and the Cougars advanced to a quarterfin­al matchup against Arizona State.

Washington State (16-16) ended a 10-year losing streak in the conference tournament.

The Buffaloes (21-11) who were ranked for much of the season, shot only 36.8% from the field and 19% (four of 21) on three pointers.

Tyler Bey led Colorado with 19 points and eight rebounds.
