Boston gains bid in Patriot upset

Tournament MVP Max Mahoney had 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead four players in double figures and Boston University shocked Colgate 64-61 on Wednesday night in Hamilton, N.Y., to win its first Patriot League tournament and earn an automatic bid into the NCAA tournament.

The third-seeded Terriers (21-13) lost both regularsea­son matchups to topseeded Colgate (25-9), which was 15-1 at home entering the game, the lone loss to Lafayette. Colgate was going for its fourth overall and second consecutiv­e NCAA tournament berth.

Clemson 69, Miami 64: Struggling from three-point range, Clemson used strong drives and 18-of-19 shooting from the free-throw line — all of those coming in the second half — in the second round of the ACC tournament at Greensboro, N.C.

North Carolina State 73,

Pittsburgh 58: Devon Daniels scored 23 points to lift North Carolina State. C.J. Bryce added 13 points and 10 rebounds in the ACC tournament game.

Syracuse 81, North Carolina 53: Elijah Hughes scored 18 of his 27 points in a dominating first half as Syracuse handed North Carolina its most lopsided loss ever in the ACC tournament.

Minnesota 74, Northweste­rn 57: Daniel Oturu scored 24 points and Marcus Carr added 14 in the first game of the Big Ten Conference tournament in Indianapol­is.

Indiana 89, Nebraska 64: Indiana freshman Trayce Jackson-Davis had a double double ( 11 points and 17 rebounds) in the Big Ten tournament game.
