More civicmindedness
Re “To fight a crisis, doctors revive a hospital,” Column One, July 7
What a heartwarming story about repurposing the closed St. Vincent Medical Center as a surge hospital for COVID-19 patients. If only the moral drive and civic mindedness of the main participants — Dr. Jamie Taylor, Dr. Anand Annamalai and Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong (owner of the Los Angeles Times) — could be applied more widely.
And, they accomplished this in only 39 days.
The United States lags far behind most of the rest of the developed world on healthcare access. It’s too bad we don’t study the successes in Canada, Europe and elsewhere. We could then pick the ideas that might work for us.
Dream on.
