Tigers put end to pair of slides

Rookie Isaac Paredes hit a grand slam for his first major league homer and the Detroit Tigers snapped a 20game losing streak against Cleveland by beating the host Indians 10-5 on Friday night.

The Tigers also ended a nine-game slide that included being swept at home last weekend by the Indians.

The 21-year-old Paredes connected in the fourth inning when the Tigers scored seven times off Adam Plutko (1-2), who was making his third start since taking over Mike Clevinger’s spot in the rotation.

Marlins 3, at Nationals 2: Miguel Rojas hit a three-run homer in his first at-bat after being activated from the COVID-19 injured list, and Miami ended a five-game skid.

Red Sox 8, at Orioles 5: Xander Bogaerts and J.D. Martinez homered to provide Boston an early lead, and the Red Sox won their season-high third straight.

Blue Jays 6, at Rays 5 (10 innings): Cavan Biggio and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. each drove in a run during the 10th inning to help Toronto pick up its sixth consecutiv­e victory.

Pirates 7, at Brewers 2: Chad Kuhl pitched five effective innings for his first win in more than two years, and Pittsburgh rolled.

White Sox 10, at Cubs 1: Jose Abreu hit two home runs and the surging White Sox went deep six times to back Dallas Keuchel at Wrigley Field.

at Royals 7, Twins 2: Jorge Soler hit a three-run homer in the first inning, and Kansas City beat Minnesota to open the third consecutiv­e weekend series between the AL Central rivals.

Reds 4, at Cardinals 2: Matt Davidson’s pinch-hit grand slam in the sixth inning was all Cincinnati needed to beat St. Louis.

at Braves 11, Phillies 2: Marcell Ozuna homered twice and drove in four as Atlanta roughed up Aaron Nola and Philadelph­ia.

at Mariners 7, Rangers 4: Rookie Kyle Lewis hit a solo home run and Nick Margeviciu­s matched his career high with seven strikeouts to lift Seattle.

at Padres 4, Astros 3: Manny Machado hit a pair of RBI singles and scored a run for San Diego, which snapped Houston’s eightgame winning streak.

at Giants 6, Diamondbac­ks 2: Evan Longoria hit his 300th home run and Wilmer Flores added a tworun shot to lift San Francisco.

N.Y. Yankees at N.Y. Mets, ppd.: MLB postponed the rest of the weekend series between the New York teams “out of an abundance of caution and to allow for additional testing and contact tracing.” The Mets had two players test positive for the coronaviru­s Thursday.

Washington Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg was diagnosed with carpal tunnel neuritis on his throwing hand after seeing a nerve specialist, manager Dave Martinez said. Martinez said surgery could be an option but he has yet to talk with the 2019 World Series MVP . ... Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona underwent a scheduled medical procedure for a gastrointe­stinal ailment and will likely miss the team’s three-game series against the Detroit Tigers . ... Chris Davis (patellar tendinitis in his left knee) was placed on the 10-day injured list by the Baltimore Orioles, who recalled top prospect Ryan Mountcastl­e . ... All-Star shortstop Gleyber Torres and left-hander James Paxton joined the Yankees’ crowded IL. Torres has mild strains in his left hamstring and quad, while Paxton has a low-grade strain in his left forearm flexor.
