Bieber improves to 6-0 as Indians top Twins

- Associated press

Shane Bieber corrected early control issues to strike out 10 and Francisco Lindor hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the sixth inning to lead the host Cleveland Indians to a 4-2 win over the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night, evening the three-game series between the American League Central rivals.

Bieber, who improved to 6-0, gave up two runs and four hits in six innings as the Indians pulled to within 11⁄2 games of the division-leading Twins.

Bieber had three walks in the first three innings but regrouped. The right-hander fanned the side in the sixth to give him double-digit strikeouts for a third straight game.

For the 15th time this season, the Indians were without manager Terry Francona, who still is recovering from surgery last week for a gastrointestinal ailment. Chris Antonetti, Cleveland’s president of baseball operations, disclosed Tuesday that the manager, 61, also has been dealing with blood clots.

Antonetti said there is no timetable for when Francona will be back.

In other news, Cleveland will recall Mike Clevinger to pitch Wednesday for the first time since he and teammate Zach Plesac broke team rules and Major League Baseball COVID-19 protocols this month and were demoted.
