Mets rally to beat Phillies after injured deGrom exits
Jacob deGrom exited early from a rare rough outing because of a right hamstring spasm, but the New York Mets overcame a fourrun deficit and rallied past the Philadelphia Phillies 5-4 on Wednesday night.
Phillies reliever Hector Neris (2-2) dropped the ball on the mound for a balk that moved the go-ahead run to second base in the ninth inning. Mets rookie Andres Gimenez hit an RBI single to put New York ahead.
The 32-year-old deGrom (4-2) had a surprisingly difficult two innings that pointed toward an apparent injury and could derail his bid for a third straight NL Cy Young Award.

Nationals 4, at Rays 2 (10 innings): Rookie Luis Garcia hit a two-run homer in the 10th inning and Washington beat AL Eastleading Tampa Bay.
Athletics 3, at Rockies 1: Mike Fiers threw six sharp innings before turning it over to a lights-out bullpen and Oakland snapped a six-game skid against Colorado.
at Marlins 8, Red Sox 4: Jorge Alfaro homered twice before he took a foul ball to his helmet and Miami beat Boston. Miami moved within 21⁄2 games of first-place Atlanta in the NL East.
at Reds 1, Pirates 0: Cincinnati’s Luis Castillo pitched a masterful seven innings, Shogo Akiyama drove in the game’s only run, and the Reds extended their winning streak to a season-high five games.
Twins 5, at White Sox 1: Byron Buxton and Miguel Sano each hit a two-run homer, and Minnesota denied Chicago a chance to clinch its first playoff berth in 12 years.
at Brewers 2-6, Cardinals 4-0: Brent Suter and three relievers combined on a two-hitter, Ryan Braun hit his 350th career homer and Milwaukee beat St. Louis to split a doubleheader.
at Cubs 3, Indians 2 (10 innings): Javier Baez’s RBI single in the 10th inning lifted Chicago to its fourth straight win in a game that was briefly delayed when a drone landed on the outfield grass.
Giants 9, at Mariners 3: Brandon Belt, Evan Longoria and Brandon Crawford hit home runs for San Francisco.
