Garcia’s late shot lifts him to win

Sergio Garcia hit an eight- iron to 30 inches on the f inal hole for a birdie and a one- shot victory in the Sanderson Farms Championsh­ip in Jackson, Miss. He closed with a five- under- par 67 to win for the 10th consecutiv­e year worldwide and the f irst time on the PGA Tour since the 2017 Masters.

Peter Malnati closed with a career- best 63 and waited to see whether it would hold up. It almost did. One week after falling out of the top 50 in the world for the first time since 2011, Garcia f inished at 19- under 269. Malnati was one back.

Mel Reid of England shot a four- under 67 for a twoshot victory in the ShopRite LPGA Classic in Galloway, N. J., for her first LPGA Tour title. Former USC standout Jennifer Song placed third, three strokes back, after a 69. ... Aaron Rai of England closed with a seven- under 64 and then won the European Tour’s Scottish Open on the f irst playoff hole when Tommy Fleetwood missed a three- foot par putt.

Oklahoma fell out of the Associated Press college football poll for the first time since September 2016 after falling 37- 30 at Iowa State on Saturday, and the No. 24 Cyclones jumped back into the top 25 after a day of upsets. ... Wisconsin quarterbac­k Jack Coan is out indefinite­ly after injuring his foot in practice Saturday as the Badgers prepare for the start of their season.

The Dallas Stars, who lost in the Stanley Cup Final, re- signed defenseman Andrej Sekera to a two- year, $ 3- million contract.

In the English Premier League, Manchester United lost 6- 1 to visiting Tottenham and defending champion Liverpool was drubbed 7- 2 at Aston Villa.
